What is Myotherapy?
Myotherapy is the evidence based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions. This dysfunction is usually recognised by patients in the form of pain which is affecting your movement and mobility in your everyday life.
Myotherapist see clients presenting with:
- General tightness
- Neck & back pain
- Headaches/ Migraines
- Chronic overuse (RSI)
- Postural problems
- Joint pains (frozen shoulder; tennis elbow; etc)
What should I expect in a treatment?
An initial Myotherapy consultation will be one hour. The consultation will typically commence with a discussion of your history and the injury you have made the appointment for. The Myotherapist may find it necessary to undertake muscle, joint and neurological testing for your condition. Combined with manual palpation of muscles and joints, a Myotherapist aims to identify the cause of your complaint, treat the pain, and minimize the likelihood of the injury reoccurring by strengthening and stabilizing the area.
What treatment techniques does a Myotherapist use?
Myotherapists have a hands on approach to treatment with various soft tissue massage techniques used. Treatment may also involve dry needling, cupping, stretching and corrective exercises. All modalities are used with the intention to restore and maintain the normal integrity of soft tissue structures.
Who can benefit from Myotherapy?
Myotherapy can be used to treat the above specific conditions but it is most advantageous for the prevention of injuries and maintenance of an improved quality of life. You could see a Myotherapist when your muscular pain is persistent or when you are suffering from reduced range of movement that is affecting your quality of life.
Is treatment claimable through health insurance?
Patient should check with their private health insurance if they are covered for Myotherapy with extras cover as rebate amounts vary with each fund. Most health funds can also be claimed on the spot with Hicaps.
All of our Myotherapists are accredited members of the Myotherapy Association of Australia.
