Osteopathy and pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time of immense change within the female body, both structural and hormonal changes cause an increase pressure on joints. Changes in the body’s centre of gravity present challenges for the body to adapt. Unfortunately the process of change isn’t always a smooth one, and its not uncommon for pregnant women to experience pain at some stage throughout their pregnancy.
Pregnant women often experience any of the following symptoms;
- Neck pain
- mid back pain
- low back pain
- buttock pain,
- and leg pain
These varied types of pain may not be something you need to endure. Osteopathic treatment may be a relieving alternative throughout your pregnancy.
Imbalance within the body after giving birth to your new baby is not uncommon. The pelvis, pelvic floor, low back and abdominal areas are often weak or dysfunctional. In a compromised state the new mother rarely gets to rest, and simple activities like holding your baby on your hip, or putting them in their car seat can highlight these imbalances and present as pain. Osteopathic treatment may assist mothers as their bodies adapt to the increased demands of motherhood, ask your Osteopath more about strategies that may help you.
